Google Docs toolkit gives LLM agents programmatic control over Google Docs via Arcade, covering document creation, structured editing, search, comments, and file access management.
Capabilities
- Document creation: Create blank documents or documents pre-populated with plain text or Markdown (headings, bold, italic, lists rendered automatically).
- Structured reading & editing: Retrieve documents in DocMD format (block IDs, character indices, style metadata) and apply precise
batchUpdateedits using those indices; also fetch raw metadata including hierarchical tab structure and character counts. - Search & retrieval: Search Drive for documents (metadata-only or with body content); results exclude trashed files. Use targeted fetches for full tab content.
- Comments: Add comments to a document by ID and list all existing comments on a document.
- File access & identity: Generate a Google Drive inline file picker URL so users can grant per-file access when a file is not found or access is denied; retrieve authenticated user profile and Docs permission details.
OAuth
This toolkit uses OAuth 2.0 via the Google provider. See the Arcade Google auth provider docs for configuration details.
Secrets
ENABLE_GOOGLE_DRIVE_INLINE_PICKER_URL— A flag/URL secret that enables theGoogleDocs.GenerateGoogleFilePickerUrltool, which surfaces Google's first-party Drive picker so users can grant the app access to specific files without a full re-auth flow. To obtain or configure this value, follow the Arcade secrets setup process; the value controls whether the inline picker endpoint is active for your deployment.
